Rivian builds vehicles for long drives and rough terrain, but there are plenty of times when putting another thousand or two thousand miles on your R1T or R1S simply doesn’t make sense.

Why Rivian Size and Weight Matter During Transport
The R1T and R1S are substantial EVs, and their weight is one of the first things we consider when arranging transport.
A commercial car carrier has limits on total weight and axle distribution, so adding a heavy electric truck or SUV affects how the rest of the trailer can be loaded. This can also affect carrier availability and, on some routes, the price of transportation.
That doesn’t make a Rivian unusually difficult to ship. It simply means we want the carrier to know exactly what they’re picking up before they arrive.
R1T vs. R1S Transport
The R1T pickup and R1S SUV share much of the same underlying platform, but we still dispatch them as the specific vehicle being transported rather than treating “Rivian” as one generic model.
We also want to know about aftermarket wheels, suspension changes, racks or other modifications when you request your quote. A stock R1S and a heavily outfitted R1T aren’t necessarily the same transport job.
Rivian-Specific Considerations During Transport
One useful feature Rivian provides is Vehicle Shipping Mode, which Rivian recommends enabling when the vehicle will be transported more than 50 miles. The mode is designed to help preserve battery charge while the vehicle is in transit.
Rivian’s transport guidance also specifies an eight-point retention method, with two points of contact at each wheel, and cautions against allowing straps to contact brake lines or suspension components behind the tires.
These are the kinds of details worth knowing when transporting an R1T or R1S. EV transport doesn’t need to be made unnecessarily complicated, but a heavy electric truck or SUV shouldn’t be treated exactly like a conventional compact sedan either.
Open or Enclosed Transport for a Rivian?
Most Rivians can be transported perfectly well on an open auto carrier.
Open transport is the most common method of vehicle shipping in the country and generally offers the best combination of carrier availability and cost. For an R1T or R1S that’s regularly driven and exposed to normal road conditions, this is often what we recommend.
Enclosed transport is available for owners who want the vehicle protected from weather and road exposure during transit. It can be particularly attractive for a brand-new Rivian, a customized build or a vehicle being transported for a collector or high-end client.
We coordinate both. The more expensive option isn’t automatically the right one.
Buying a Rivian in Another State
The used and specialty vehicle market has become increasingly national. If the R1T or R1S you want is sitting several states away, you don’t necessarily need to fly there and drive it home.

How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Rivian?
Rivian transport pricing depends on the route, season, carrier availability, open versus enclosed service and the specific vehicle being moved.
Weight can play a role as well. Because an R1T or R1S takes up a meaningful portion of a carrier’s allowable load, some shipments may price higher than a lighter passenger vehicle traveling the same route.
We’d rather quote the actual shipment than advertise a broad price range that may have little to do with your move.
