Why Tesla Model 3 Transport Requires the Right Carrier
A Model 3 fits comfortably on a standard auto transport trailer, but ground clearance matters.
Current Model 3 configurations have approximately 5.4 inches of ground clearance, while the Model 3 Performance sits at approximately 5.0 inches.
Loading a Low-Clearance Model 3
Trailer approach angles vary. A steep loading angle can increase the possibility of contact underneath a low vehicle, so the equipment and loading position matter, particularly with the Model 3 Performance.
The goal isn’t simply finding a truck with an empty space. It’s matching the Tesla with a carrier equipped to load and transport it properly.
EV Weight Matters Too
Electric vehicles are heavier than many comparable gas-powered sedans because of their battery packs.
Depending on configuration, a current Model 3 weighs roughly 3,759 to 4,054 pounds. A carrier has to account for that weight along with every other vehicle on the trailer, axle limits, loading position and unloading sequence.

For most daily-driven Model 3s, open transport remains an excellent option.

Buying or Shipping a Tesla Model 3 Long Distance
The Model 3 with the right color, configuration, mileage or price might be sitting 900 miles away. You don’t necessarily need to fly out and drive it home.

A Model 3 arriving for pickup with almost no usable battery can create an unnecessary problem if it needs to be repositioned.
Give the carrier a reasonable amount of charge, but there’s no reason to prepare your Tesla as though it’s about to make the cross-country drive itself.
It’s riding, not driving.
Shipping the Model 3 Performance
The Model 3 Performance deserves extra attention.
Its approximately 5-inch ground clearance and 20-inch wheels make careful loading particularly important. If your Performance has aftermarket suspension, aerodynamic components, different wheels or other modifications, tell us when requesting your quote.
A lowered or modified Model 3 may require different loading considerations than a completely stock vehicle.
That’s information we want before the carrier arrives, not when the Tesla is sitting at the bottom of the loading ramps.
Shipping the 2027 Tesla Model 3
The Model 3 received substantial updates beginning with its recent refresh, including changes to its styling, interior, ride and overall refinement.
Current information indicates the 2027 Tesla Model 3 will largely continue that platform rather than introducing another major redesign. Tesla also doesn’t follow traditional model-year conventions as rigidly as many manufacturers, so specifications and configurations can evolve during the production cycle.
For auto transport, the important factors remain the actual vehicle being shipped: configuration, dimensions, ground clearance, weight and any modifications.

Season matters too. Florida is a good example, with carrier demand and directional traffic changing significantly during snowbird season.
Open or enclosed transport also affects pricing. Open shipping is less expensive and appropriate for most Model 3s, while enclosed transportation provides additional protection at a higher cost.
Finally, the vehicle itself matters. A stock Model 3 and a lowered Model 3 Performance may require different loading considerations.
