Nationwide Shipping for One of America’s Most Popular EVs

The Tesla Model Y has become a familiar sight on American roads and on auto transport carriers. Autos On The Go has transported hundreds of Teslas nationwide, including Model Y vehicles moving for relocations, seasonal stays, out-of-state purchases and long-distance moves.

While a Model Y can travel on the same commercial auto carriers used for conventional vehicles, there are a few EV-specific details worth getting right. Its battery weight, ground clearance, configuration and Tesla’s own transportation procedures all matter when the vehicle is being loaded and moved.

What Makes Model Y Transport Different?

The Model Y is a relatively straightforward vehicle to ship, but we don’t treat every Tesla as interchangeable. The Model Y is considerably lighter than the larger Tesla Model X, which can affect carrier capacity and pricing.

Its battery pack contributes substantially to the vehicle’s overall weight, something a carrier has to account for when planning the rest of the trailer. Commercial auto transporters operate within total and axle weight limits, so the exact vehicles being loaded matter.

Ground clearance is another consideration. Current Model Y configurations have approximately 6.4 to 6.6 inches of unladen ground clearance, while the Model Y Performance sits lower at approximately 6.0 inches. If your Model Y has been lowered, fitted with aftermarket wheels or otherwise modified, let us know before we assign the carrier.

Tesla’s Transport Requirements

Tesla specifies that a Model Y should be transported with all four wheels off the ground. The vehicle’s motors can generate power when its wheels spin, which is why Tesla cautions against transporting a Model Y with its tires rolling on the roadway.

Tesla also provides Tow Mode for situations where the vehicle needs to be slowly repositioned or winched for loading.

These details are especially relevant when dealing with an inoperable or damaged Model Y. For a normal running vehicle being loaded onto a commercial auto carrier, the process is considerably more routine.

Open or Enclosed Transport for a Tesla Model Y?

For most Model Y owners, open auto transport is the practical choice.

It’s the same general type of carrier commonly used to transport new vehicles around the country and offers greater carrier availability at a lower price than enclosed shipping.

Enclosed transport provides protection from weather and road exposure during transit. We may recommend it for an exceptionally low-mileage Model Y, a Performance model, a custom wrap or paint finish, or simply for an owner who prefers the additional protection.

There isn’t a reason to automatically put every Tesla inside an enclosed trailer. We’ll help you choose based on the vehicle, route and your priorities.

The Current Tesla Model Y

The Model Y has evolved considerably since its original introduction. Tesla’s refreshed generation brought substantial changes to the exterior, interior, suspension and overall refinement while retaining the basic formula that made the Model Y so successful.

From a transport perspective, we’re less concerned with the marketing name attached to a particular update than with the actual Model Y sitting at pickup.

Wheel selection, Performance configuration, ground clearance and modifications can all affect how a vehicle should be approached. Tesla can also make running changes during production rather than waiting for a traditional model-year changeover.

That’s why we dispatch based on the actual vehicle being transported, not assumptions about what every Model Y should look like.

Buying a Tesla Model Y in Another State

The right Model Y may be hundreds or even thousands of miles from home.

Customers increasingly shop outside their immediate market for the right configuration, mileage, condition and price. Autos On The Go can coordinate pickup from a Tesla location, dealership or private seller without requiring you to be physically present.

Once the vehicle is ready for release, we coordinate with the pickup contact and arrange transportation to your destination.

For a long-distance purchase, that means your newly purchased Model Y can arrive without immediately accumulating a cross-country trip’s worth of mileage, tire wear and charging stops.

Model Y Transport to and From Florida

Florida is one of our busiest markets, particularly as seasonal residents move south in the fall and north again in the spring.

We regularly coordinate Tesla transportation between Florida and the Northeast, Midwest and other parts of the country. That includes Model Y shipments into and out of Palm Beach County, Boca Raton, Miami, Naples and surrounding Florida communities like The Villages.

For owners spending several months in Florida, shipping the Model Y allows you to have your own vehicle here without turning the move itself into a multi-day drive.

How Much Does It Cost to Ship a Tesla Model Y?

There isn’t one nationwide Model Y transport rate.

Distance, pickup and delivery locations, season, carrier availability and whether you choose open or enclosed service all affect pricing. A route between two major metropolitan areas may also price differently from one that requires a carrier to travel well outside a major transport corridor.

Vehicle configuration matters too. A stock Model Y and a lowered or modified Model Y Performance may not present exactly the same transport requirements.

We price the actual vehicle, route and timeframe rather than relying on a generic per-mile calculator.
